ABORISADE SUES BIHARI, MAKINDE, OTHERS OVER HERDSMEN ATTACKS

An activist, Femi Aborisade, has filed a suit against Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde at the Federal High Court, Ibadan for the enforcement of the fundamental rights of the people of Ibarapaland, against herdsmen and others.

The suit number FHC/IB/CS/17/21 was filed through his counsel, Femi Falana (SAN), on Wednesday.

The Attorney General of Oyo State, the President Federal Republic of Nigeria, Attorney General of the Federation and Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command were sued as 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respondents.

In the Motion on Notice, Aborisade is seeking an order for the enforcement of his fundamental rights to life, freedom of movement and property and of all people in Ibarapa Central, Ibarapa West, Ibarapa East and Ibarapa North.

The suit also covered people in Igangan, Atisbo, Irepo, Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa, Kajola, Oorelope, Olorunsogo, Saki East and Saki West local governments.

It was filed pursuant to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended and  Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009.

Aborisade said the respondents have failed to guarantee the fundamental rights of the people living and/or working in the listed towns.

He said they have also failed to secure the lives and properties of people living in the area.
